This time we went to Zlatibor Mountain in western part of Serbia. Zlatibor is one of the major tourist destinations in Serbia and it is the leading winter destination in this part of the country. It is situated conveniently on the main road from Serbia to Montenegro and in the vicinity of Mokra Gora, another mountain tourist destination in these parts of Serbia. If you choose to go there by plane, know that the closest airport is approximately 3 hours drive from Zlatibor (in the Serbian capital Belgrade, Airport Nikola Tesla).
It was a weekend trip and for our stay in Zlatibor we chose hotel Mona, a four star hotel and according to many, the best choice for having relaxed vacations. Right now, there are 8 hotels in the city of Zlatibor (two more are in construction) and for now this one is the best choice, indeed. This was not our first time in Hotel Mona, we have already been there, this time we wanted to see if the hotel was at the same quality level as during our last visit 2 years ago.
On our arrival we had a nice surprise, it started to snow (the first snow of the year) and it did not stopped until our departure. It was really amazing to enjoy a true mountain set up with pinewoods, snow covered hills around the artificial lake just 5 minutes from the hotel. it was so beautiful, so winter-idyllic like we were in a fairytale. Check the photos and imagine yourself there.
Coming to Hotel
On a quick look around everything was the same as 2 years ago. Hotel Mona has a spacious, covered and open parking able to receive guests’ vehicles. From the parking you are stepping into the spacious lobby area with the reception, few coffee tables and very comfortable sofas. Registration process is fast and pleasant.
All public spaces in the hotel (corridors, stairways and lobbies) are colored with bright pastel colors with the combination of wood and wooden details. It makes everything bright and give you a nice feeling of warmth. Hotel has 120 rooms, 1 bar and 2 restaurants and also, a spa center, gym and a children corner (spa, gym and children corner are free for hotel guests). The hotel is well-equipped for business guests and has a big conference room which can be divided into 3 smaller conference rooms on request.
As I mentioned already, hotel Mona has 120 rooms and suites (standard, family and superior rooms and classic and Mona suites).
There are rooms equipped for guests with special needs. Hotel Mona is also pet friendly, accordingly some of the rooms are suited for pet accommodation. For our stay we took a standard double room. The room has a bit awkward T shape design and no terrace but have large windows.
Beside each bed there are standard night tables and above beds there are light switches and night lamps. Also, there are two big sofas, coffee table, desk, chair, mini bar, flat screen TV and pretty spacious closet with built-in safe for your valuables. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and you will get Wi-Fi password during the check-in process.
One thing that we didn’t like much is the bathroom because it has medium sized shower cabin and the whole bathroom is a bit smaller than we used to have in a four star hotel.
Room service is available in the hotel but you probably won’t need it because there are 2 restaurants in the hotel, a buffet restaurant and a national restaurant. However, rooms are fine but we think there is missing that “one special thing” which will give you that feeling of a 4 star hotel, maybe hotel managers should think this through.
About the food
The big plus about Mona is the food. If you are staying in Mona you have to take full board because huge amounts of tasty and well prepared dishes are served at the buffet throughout the day (for breakfast, lunch and dinner). Most of the dishes are local or national specialities with an authentic taste and a modern touch.
If you are not into buffet-like restaurant, there is one more national restaurant in the hotel which is open for all guests and visitors on the mountain.
Note that there is plenty of restaurants, bars, clubs and café in the area of every style and for any budget. As I said, Zlatibor is a very popular destination for Serbs, so you will find plenty of tourist-like attractions, and a lot of tourists too not matter if it is summer or winter. Hotel Mona is right in the center of the city, no need to walk miles and miles to go somewhere.
We had nice weather, great food and tremendous fun during our 2 day stay and hope you will too.
